Review of CATS Scores

-Power Point

B. Gibson

Mr. Gibson passed out handouts and reviewed the CATS scores with a power point presentation.  Although our scores improved, there are still gaps that need to be addressed.  Female scores of 82.4 were higher than the male scores of 77.6 with a gap of 4.8.  The gap between White (82.3) and African American (53.4) results in a gap of 27.9.  Free and reduced lunch (62.1) vs Non Free and Reduced lunch (84.0) resulted in a gap of 21.9 and disabled students (49.5) vs non disabled students (81.7) resulted in a gap of 32.2.  So therefore, there is room for improvement in these areas.  Overall, we gained 1.3 pts.  Our novice category was reduced, our dropouts reduced, we increased distinguished scores from 281 to 334 and increased proficient scores from 668 to 699.

Committee Update

-Advisor/Advisee

-Discipline/ Climate

-Incentive Comm.

B. Gibson/L. Caudill

The advisor/advisee committee is continuing to look into ways to improve.  They are still looking into multi age groups vs. one grade level in advisor groups.  Also, they are trying to determine how to get more time in with their groups.  With the computer based Individual Learning Plan replacing the paper IGP folders and interruptions from class voting (officers, student council, prom etc) there needs to be a time to get all of this accomplished with the least amount of disruption to the school day.  One option being looked at is to cut the last 15 minutes off of third block and adding it after second block so that everyone could go to advisor group everyday.

Mr. Caudill reviewed a handout on the summary of discipline events thus far for the year.  The three highest areas of concern at this time is tardy to school/class, skipping school and unexcused tardies.

The incentive committee is trying to come up with ways to fund incentives since there is no budget.  They really want to recognize those who do well on the CATS testing.

6.

Scheduling Committee Update

B. Gibson

The scheduling committee has met twice.  It is the recommendation of the committee to modify our schedule to a 4 x 4 block with one or 2 modified classes.  The committee is looking into what courses this can be applied to and what effect it will have on teachers, etc.

7.

Other Business

-Ad hoc Comm. ESS

-Bike Ramp

Currently the ESS money is tied to summer school and the plato credit recovery program.  A charge was made to create a committee to study the current ESS program and to seek suggestions on how to make the program better or possible ways to tweak it.  1st by Sue Jacobs, with a second by Mr. Mastin.

Ms. Jacobs brought up the fact that more students are riding their bikes to school.  She has noticed that some of the students have been locking their bikes to the railing of the handicap ramp in the front of the school which makes it impassable for people who need the ramp for their wheelchairs.  She asked if the school could provide bike racks in the front and rear of the school.  Mr. Gibson believes that we may have bike racks in storage.  He is going to check with the district to see where those are.

A member asked about the staph infections in the school.  At the time of this meeting there were three confirmed cases of staph (however, the three cases were not mrsa staph) (**After this meeting, there was one confirmed case of  mrsa and a letter from the health department was sent home with every student).

None of the cases were contracted from school.  The janitors are making every effort to keep all soap containers full and there is hand sanitizer in the cafeteria.  The coach’s are taking extra precautions. The football team has purchased a sanitizer spray that specifically kills the mrsa staph.
