Open Forums and P.T.O Meetings for 2007-2008
Four times during the school year, parents meet face-to-face with teachers and administrators to discuss school issues.  Discussions are interactive and give parents first-hand information about school goals, activities and academics. Please plan to attend.
2007 - 2008 Open Forum and PTO Meeting Dates
Tuesday September 4, 2007
Thursday November 15, 2007

Open Forums start at 6:00 p.m. in the WCHS Library followed by the PTO meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Fundraising
The PTO's only fundraiser is to ask for your support through a tax-deductible donation.  Basic membership is $25.00 per family but special recognition will be given to those who give at our Black and Gold level of $100 or more!  Help us meet this year's goal of raising $6000 by contributing today.  Donate by September 28, 2007 to be eligible for prizes!
This year we plan to fund several LCD projectors and screens to help our teachers bring the internet with its interactive learning into the classroom.  We also will fund staff appreciation activities and special requests.  Last year the PTO gave $3200 to the WCHS Library to purchase essential non-fiction.

The WCHS PTO is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) charity and donations are tax-deductible.

PTO contributes to the school in these ways:

PARENT COMMUICATIONS:  How do you like to get information about what's going on at WCHS?  Face-to-face at the parent-teacher open forums?  Through Buzz Mail (e-mail)?  The PTO newsletter, The Buzz? School administrators and the PTO work hard to make sure that no matter how you like to receive information, it's available to you?  Your sponsorship will allow us to continue to keep the lines of communication open!

SPECIAL REQUESTS AND DONATIONS:  From time to time, school administration, guidance counselors and teachers approach the PTO looking for financial assistance for students as well as the school.  In the past we have helped students with cap and gown rental expenses, school supplies and personal needs.  We have purchased artwork for the hallways and rugs for the floors.  These requests are often unexpected and your sponsorship will help us continue to respond to these needs as they arise.

BURSARY FUND: Students who have a genuine educational need that they cannot afford (e.g., a class field trip) and school groups who have financial need for special projects (e.g. Project Graduation) may write a confidential letter to the PTO. Executive Board asking for help.

CITIZENSHIP LETTERS: Each year the PTO honors sophomore, junior, and senior students who have exemplified good citizenship at WCHS by maintaining a 2.5 GPA, meeting attendance requirements, participating in extra-and/or co-curricular activities, and/or obtaining teacher recommendations.

TEACHER APPRECIATION: Who doesn't love to be appreciated?  Throughout the year, many parent volunteers support teacher appreciation activities including the back-to-school brunch, holiday treats, and National Teacher Appreciation Week.  At the end of the school year, the PTO treats the entire WCHS staff to a luncheon.  It's one of the few times that all the teachers, administrators and staff can sit down together and enjoy a meal.  Your sponsorship will show how much we truly appreciate what the teachers do for our students.

WOODFORD EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT FUND:  The PTO makes a yearly donation to the organization that sponsors arts events in our community.

COLLEGE/CAREER PLANNING SEMINAR: This informative event for underclass students will be repeated this year.
PTO helps make this an extra-special evening for students and their families.

REFRESHMENTS FOR UNDERCLASS HONORS: The PTO helps make this a extra-special evening for students and their families.

SCHOOL DANCES: The PTO sponsors events like last year's Snow Ball to provide entertainment opportunities for our students.

GENERAL MEETINGS: The PTO provides several opportunities during the year for the exchange of ideas, informative programs, and the conduct of business.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT:  Each department of WCHS (Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Career and Tech Ed., Special Education and Fine Arts) will receive funds with which they may purchase educational supplies and equipment which will directly benefit ALL WCHS students.

Its a fact: when parents are involved, students excel.
