**AGRICULTURAL
COMMUNICATIONS
Credit: 1 Grade: 10, 11, 12 Course Length: Term This course allows students to explore careers in the agricultural communications industry. Mass communication through radio, television, speech, research reporting, and print media will be covered. Content will be enhanced with computer applications. Leadership development will be provided through FFA. AGRICULTURAL
COOP I AND II

Course
Length: Two Terms Prerequisite:
Introduction to Agriculture
Science and Technology; agriculture teacher approval;
concurrent enrollment in a one term agriculture class. Students
shall procure placement or employment in an agricultural business or enterprise
such as production agriculture, mechanics, agribusiness, or horticulture.
Instructor will provide teaching and counseling with job problems and
visit the employee to determine progress. The
student will be required to keep a record book of activities and participate in
leadership development activities. Students
will work a minimum of fifteen hours per week.
Enrollment is limited and a permit is required to register.
Students must be enrolled in an AG class for each term enrolled.
This course may be repeated for a total of 4 credits. **AGRICULTURAL
EMPLOYMENT SKILLS
Credit: 1 Grade:

Course Length: Term Provides
opportunities to develop skills in: job
searching, preparing resumes, writing letters of application, job interviews,
attitude at work, communicating effectively, human relations and accepting
responsibilities. Leadership
development will be provided through FFA. Each
student will be expected to complete an agricultural experience program. AGRICULTURAL
CONSTRUCTION SKILLS
Credit: 1 Grade:

Course Length: Term This course prepares students to construct and maintain agricultural structures and equipment. It develops basic skills such as: tool identification, interpreting plans, carpentry, welding, metal fabrication, plumbing, masonry, fencing and calculating a bill of materials. Leadership development will be provided through FFA. Each student will be expected to complete an agricultural experience program. This course may be repeated for a total of two credits. AGRICULTURAL
POWER AND MACHINERY
Credit:
l Grade: 10, 11, 12 Course Length: Term This
course provides hands-on experiences with instruction in basic principles of
power and machinery operation, maintenance, service and repair.
Topics to be presented are to include engine components and functions,
power and power transmission, and tractors and field machinery. Leadership
development will be provided through FFA. Each
student will be expected to complete an agricultural experience program.
This course may be repeated for a maximum of two credits in consecutive

Course Length: Term Students will study the scientific agricultural
approach to animal science and selection and plant and land science.
Laboratory experiences relating to basic and current technology will be
utilized. Leadership development

appropriate records. ANIMAL
SCIENCE

Course Length: Term This
course develops knowledge and skills pertaining to livestock identification,
selection, nutrition, reproduction and genetics, health management and marketing
of one or more species of farm animals. The latest biogenetic applications will be included.
Leadership development will be provided through FFA.
Each student will be expected to complete an agricultural experience
program. **CROP
TECHNOLOGY
Credit: 1 Grade:
10, 11, 12
Course Length: Term This
course develops scientific knowledge and skills pertaining to the production of
agricultural crops. Instruction
includes variety selection, seed bed preparation, fertilization, pest and
disease control, harvesting and marketing crops. Current biotechnological application and leadership
development through the FFA will be provided.
Each student will be expected to complete an agricultural experience
project.
EQUINE
SCIENCE
Credit: 1 Grade:
10, 11, 12
Course Length: Term
Equine
Science, or Horse Science, develops knowledge and skills pertaining to breed
identification and selection, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, genetics and
reproductive management, training principles, grooming, health disease, parasite
control, and sanitation practices. This
course may be taken for college credit through Midway College Tech Prep
articulation agreement. Leadership
development will be provided through the FFA.
Each student will be expected to have an agricultural experience program.
*FARM
AND AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Credit: l Grade:
10, 11, 12
Course Length: Term Students
will develop basic skills in managing agricultural business and farms.
The content of this course will include decision-making, management
production, equipment, credit and taxes, market analysis, and development of a
farm plan. Leadership development
will be provided through FFA. Each
student will be expected to complete an agricultural experience program. *FLORAL
DESIGN/TURF AND LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT

Prerequisite:
Introduction to Agricultural Science and Technology. Turf and Landscape Management
Credit: ½
Course
Length: ½ term The
turf and landscape portion will include intensive study in professional
landscaping and turf management for home and commercial applications including
gold courses, athletic fields, polo fields, and businesses, as well as, the
home. Identification of plants and
pests will be emphasized. Floral Design
Credit: ½
Course
Length: ½ term This
course teaches floral design techniques using dried and fresh flowers, operating
and managing a florist business, interior plantscaping, and identification,
production and cultural maintenance practices of plants used in interior
landscapes. Plant identification will be emphasized. Content may be enhanced by appropriate computer applications.
Leadership development will be provided through FFA.
Each student will be expected to have an agricultural experience program. GREENHOUSE
TECHNOLOGY
Credit: 1 Grade:
10, 11, 12
Course Length: Term
The
content of this course includes greenhouse structures, regulating the greenhouse
environment, plant propagation, plant growth, structure and environment of
plants for bed and container growing, production cycles, variety selection,
fertilization, and pest and disease control.
Leadership development will be provided through FFA.
Each student will be expected to complete an agriculture experience
program. There will be much
hands-on work in plant production. This course may be repeated for total of two credits. INTRODUCTION
TO AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Course Length: Term This
course introduces students to the various segments of the agricultural industry.
Basic animal science, plant and land science, and agricultural mechanics
skills will be introduced along with the selection and planning of an
agricultural experience program and related recordkeeping.
Leadership development will be provided through FFA.
Students will receive personal guidance and counseling with preparatory
instructional program selection. INTRODUCTION
TO AGRICULTURAL POWER AND MACHINERY

Course Length: Term This
class provides hands-on experience in equipment and machinery assembly,
operation, maintenance, and repair. Techniques
to be used include equipment operation and maintenance through welding and metal
working skills and painting. The
content covered will be maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment and/or
small combustion-type engine and/or electric motor.
Content may be enhanced by appropriate computer applications.
Leadership development will be provided through FFA.
