1/08/08  Section 4.10--finding anti-derivatives.  Assign p. 305 #17-43 odd and 53-59 odd.

1/09/08  Continue section 4.10 by going over homework on board.  Continue this section by assigning p. 305 #2-42 evens 

1/10/08  Briefly answer any homework questions.  Take quiz over finding anti-derivatives.  Move on to finding summations using summation formulas and finding limits of summations in Appendix E. This is in preparation for finding areas under graphs of curves, requiring the use of summations.  Assign p. A38 #1-35 odd, 43, and 45.

1/11/08  p. A38 #2-34 even, 44, and 46 as well as p. 324 #1.

1/14/08  p. 324 #5,11,13-21 odd and 2 board problems:  1.  Estimate area under the curve f(x) =2x-3 from [2,6] using eight equal rectangles and a/right endpoints, b) left endpoints, and c) midpoints.  do the same for #2) f(x)=x^2 +x+2 on [0,3]

1/30/08  Quiz over sections 5.3 and 5.4.  Homework is to complete the open response on the integral function given in class today and the worksheet on graphing an integral function of f(t) given a graph of f(t) and finding the derivative of an integral function given an f(t) function.

1/31/08  Give instruction on section 5.5, integration of a composite function using substitution.  Assign p. 365 #1-16 all and 37-42 all.

2/01/08  Assign more problems from p. 365, #17-32 all and 43-50 all.

2/04/08  Give bell ringer over integration using the substitution rule.  Hand out worksheet/review sheet over integration by substitution and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus to prepare students for quiz Tuesday over sections 5.3-5.5.  

2/05/08  Give quiz over sections 5.3-5.5.  .  Begin preparing for the Chapter 5 Test by assigning a review packet.  Test will be given on Thursday or Friday of this week.

2/19/08  Assign worksheets 10.2 and 10.3 from the Algebra II workbook reviewing solving of logarithm equations and expressions using logarithm properties.  Do all of 10.2, all of 10.3, and the odds on the page with exponential equations.

2/20/08  p. 420 #1-23 all, 25-30 all dealing with inverse functions.

2/21/08  Worksheet over inverse functions, in particular the logarithmic functions and the exponential function.  Assign #1-7 odd, 9-12 all, 13-19 odd, 33-39 odd, 73-85 odd.

2/25/08  Continued with inverse function worksheet but also went on to introduce find the derivative of the ln function.  Assigned #16,20,48,50,74,76, and 78 from the inverse worksheet and # 3-6, 7,9,11,13-14 a and b, 21,23,27,29,  and 37-55 odd.

2/26/08  Went over homework from derivative of ln worksheet (sect. 5.1 of Larson textbook).  Collected inverse function worksheet problems.  Assigned # 13-14 c and d, 20-30 even, 40-56 even, 60, 64, 68, 70, 78, and 84.  

2/27/08  Collected homework from Tuesday.  Assigned worksheet 5.2 of Larson textbook #1-29 odd, 33-39 odd, 47, 51, 53, and 57.  

2/28/08 Bell ringer over simplifying logarithm expressions, using logarithm properties, and finding derivatives of natural logarithmic functions.  After bell ringer, go over homework, then assign from 5.2 worksheet given in class on Wednesday, problems #2-30 even, 34-40 even, 52, 54, and 58.

2/29/08  p. 458 in Stewart textbook;  #2-8 Even, 14-38 Even, 42,44,56,60-68 Even.  Quiz over sections 7.1-7.2 on Monday March 3, 2008.

3/03/08  Quiz over 7.1-7.2.  Assigned open responses ('97 AB-1 and 2001 Ab-3).

3/04/08  Worksheet from the Larson textbook over derivatives and integrals of the natural exponential function.  Assign #1-11 odd, 27-51 odd, 57,59, and 75-85 odd.

3/05/08  Same worksheet as yesterday.  Assign #2-12 even, 28-52 even, 58, and 76-88 even.  

3/06/08  Assign review worksheet covering differentiation and integration of the natural exponential and the natural logarithmic function as well as solving of both types of these equations from Pre-Calculus.  Quiz tomorrow over these topics.

3/07/08  Quiz over sections 7.2 and 7.3.  Assign three open responses for homework; '91 AB-2, '93 AB-2, and '98 AB-4.

3/10/08 Finish quiz begun last Friday that had to be cut short due to early release for snow.  After 30 minutes of working on quiz, give instruction on finding derivatives and integrals of exponential and logarithmic functions with bases other than base "e".  Also do application problems involving interest compounding using the exponential functions A=Pe^rt and A=P(1+r/n)^nt.  Assign from Larson textbook section 5.5, #1-17 odds, 29-47 odds, 53,57, and 59.  

3/11/08 Same worksheet as assigned yesterday.  #2-14 even (a and b), 30-46 even, 54,58, and 70-76 even.  

3/12/08  Worksheet 5.6 from the Larson textbook reviewing models of exponential growth and decay such as interest (growth) and half-life (decay) problems and an introduction to solving of differential equations.  Also introduced how to determine the graph of an antiderative of a function  by drawing a slope field given the derivative of a function.  Assigned # 1-5 odd, 9-25 odd, 29-31 odd on worksheet 5.6.  

3/13/08  More problems from Larson worksheet 5.6.  Assigned # 2-6 even, 10-26 even, 30 and 34.  Gave exit quiz at end of block over derivatives and integration of base a exponential functions and base a logarithmic functions.

3/14/08  Worked more with slope fields, and continued solving separable differential equations.  Assigned #1-4 on a slope field worksheet, and from section 5.7 of Larson textbook, gave worksheet over solving differential equations, assigning #1-17 odd, 27, 35, 37, and 43-53 odd. 

3/17/08  More work on slope fields, differential equations, etc.  Assigned from 5.7 worksheet #2, 6, 8, 12, 18, 20, 32-38 even, 44, 48-58 even.  

3/18/08  Went over homework and began instruction on evaluating inverse trigonometric functions and rewriting complicated inverse trig functions in algebraic form.  Assigned a review sheet over sections 5.5-5.7 of Larson textbook in preparation for quiz on Wednesday.  We will continue with 5.8 on Thursday after reviewing for Midterm exam to be given o Friday 3/21.  

3/19/08  Quiz over 5.5-5.7.  Assign a review packet of multiple choice questions (an actual AP Practice Exam) in preparation for Midterm on Friday. 

3/20/08  Go over multiple choice questions assigned on Wednesday in preparation for comprehensive midterm exam on Friday.  If time allows, continue working on section 5.8, inverse trig. functions, and introduce the derivative rules for these functions.  No written homework will be assigned tonight so that students can study for midterm.

3/21/08  Midterm Exam is today.  For homework assign problems from worksheet 5.8 (Larson) that we have had a chance to cover prior to the midterm, particularly those problems of evaluating inverse trig functions and finding the derivative of inverse trig expressions.  Problems assigned:  # 5-15 odd, 19-29 odd, 39-55 odd.

3/24/08  Went over midterm exam and homework from Larson section 5.8.  Assigned from same worksheet as Friday #6-16 even, 20-30 even, 40-52 even.  

3/25/08  Section 5.9 (Larson) examples of integration problems using inverse trigonometric functions.  Assign from worksheet #1-35 odds.

3/26/08  Short quiz over last two sections covered from Larson Ch. 5/Stewart Ch. 7 (about 4 or 5 problems).  Hand out overall review (Larson textbook) over Calculus of exponential, logarithmic, and inverse trigonometric functions and problems involving differentiation and integration of these functions. Assign # 3-5, 13-25 odd, 39-51 odd, 52-55 all, 69-62 all, 67, 71, 73, 75, 83, and 85.

3/27/08  Test over material from chapter 7 of Stewart text, Ch. 5 of Larson text.  No homework.

3/28/08  Leave about three open responses, and a set of multiple choice questions for  substitute to give for review.  Open responses include the following from previous AP tests:1988 BC-1, 1990 AB-1, 1998 AB-4, 2000 AB-2, and 2000 AB-5.

3/31/08-4/04/08  SPRING  BREAK

4/07/08  Finding area between two curves--assigned worksheet 6.1 from the Larson textbook, #1-9 odd, and #13-25 odd.

4/08/08  Continue finding area between curves using integration.  From the same worksheet as Monday, assigned #2-10 even and 14-26 even.

4/09/08  One more day of finding area between curves.  After going over some homework, I assigned p. 380-381 #1,3,5,7,11,13,17,19, 27and 41.

4/10/08  Went over some of homework, then students did a classroom assignment worksheet with 4 problems on finding area between curves.  After finishing the four problems on the worksheet, went on to introduce finding volume of a solid of revolution using both the disc and washer methods.  Assigned worksheet 6.2 from the Larson book, #1-9 odd and #11 a&b. 

4/11/08  More examples of finding volume of a solid using disc/washer methods.  Assigned same worksheet given out yesterday, #13-21 odd, 31, and 33.

4/14/08  One more day of disc and washer methods.  Went over homework, then assigned same worksheet as the last two days, #12-22 even and #34.  

4/15/08  Began instruction on finding volumes of known cross sections taken perpendicular to either the x-axis or y-axis.  Handed out a packet from the Larson textbook giving illustrations of problems where cross sections of a base region are cut out to help form a solid or revolution.  Assign p. 425 from Larson, #55 a-d, 56 a-c, and 57, as well as p. 391 #19-29 odd from the Stewart textbook.  

4/16/08  Went over problems assigned yesterday containing cross sections of a base region.  Also went over answers to problems assigned from the textbook on p. 391.  Gave out worksheet with more cross section problems taken from overhead examples given last year, as well as p. 291 #20-30 even.

4/17/08  Review of finding area of region between curves, finding volume of a solid formed by revolving a region about an axis using disc/washer method, and finding volume of a known cross section of a region.  Assign worksheet reviewing all three types of problems, with quiz coming up on Friday over sections 6.1 and 6.2 from the Stewart textbook.  

4/18/08  Quiz over 6.1 and 6.2. If time permits, introduce the shell method for finding volume.  If not assign three open responses ('95 AB-, '95 AB-6, and '98 AB-1) for Monday. 

4/21/08  Instruction on using shell method to find volume of a solid of revolution.  Assigned worksheet 6.3 (Larson), #1-21 odds.

4/22/08  Class will not meet due to seniors going to Louisville zoo.

4/23/08  Assigned the following problems from worksheet 6.3 (Larson textbook):  #2-10 even, 14, 18, and 22 a-c.  Also went on and passed out to seniors going to NYC on the senior trip all open responses and multiple choice questions that will be assigned on Friday and also gave them the homework over Trapezoid Rule and Average Value from the textbook that will be assigned Friday.

4/24/08  Class did not meet due to seniors attending the play "Noises Off" at Falling Springs.

4/25/08  6 seniors gone to New York.  Went over any questions related to homework using shell method, then collected.  Remainder of class was spent working on open responses and reviewing material taught Wednesday over average value and the trapezoid rule.  Assigned p. 405 #1, 3, 5, 9, 11, and 17; p. 563 #1, 3, 7, and 13; the 2000 open responses questions AB-1 through AB-6, and a set of multiple choice questions.  All is due on Monday.

4/28/08  p. 405 #2, 4, 10, 16, and 17;  p. 563 #2, 3, 8, and 10; Open responses from the 2001 exam, and 10 multiple choice questions (#1-10) from the 1993 exam.  Also passed out open response answers to the 2000 exam given for homework last Friday.

4/29/08  Gave an open response over trapezoid rule and average value modeled after the 1999 AB-3 question.  Then went over returned graded homework on shell method, then over the 2001 year open responses, and then reviewed for chapter 6 test coming up tomorrow.  Assigned a review packet covering area, volume, average value and trapezoid rule in preparation for test on Wednesday.

4/30/08  Took chapter 6 test.  Assigned the 2002 open responses (AB--1-AB-6) as well as 17 multiple choice questions with calculator availability and 10 multiple choice questions from the '93 exam (no calculator).  

5/01/08  Went over some of the 2002 open responses and the multiple choice assigned yesterday.  Assigned the 2003 open responses and the remainder of the multiple choice questions from the 1993 exam.

5/02/08  Answered questions that students had about last night's multiple choice questions, and then went over answers and handed out solutions to the 2003 open response questions.  Assigned the 2004 open response questions and 28 multiple choice questions (non-calculator) from the 1st practice exam in the Princeton Review book.

5/05/08  Conduct an overall review of material from the entire year, hitting some of the key theorems and formulas that students can expect on the AP exam.  For homework, assign 17 multiple choice questions (Calculator allowed) from the 1st practice exam in t he Princeton Review book, and the 2005 open response questions.

5/06/08  Assigned the non-calculator questions from the 2003 AP exam.  This will be counted as a test grade although it was a take home assignment.  Also passed out the 2006 open response questions although I did not make these a mandatory written assignment.  AP exam is tomorrow, May 7th.

5/07/08  Students will be taking the AP Exam at KCTCS.  No class.

5/08/08  Most students are taking the AP English Literature Exam. No new material covered.

5/09/08  We discussed the AP Calculus Exam as far as types of questions.  Watched movie "Stand and Deliver".  No homework.

5/12/08-5/16/08  AP Test is over.  Class has been watching movies pretty much each day.

5/19/08  Integration by parts instruction.  Do examples, then assign classwork for today and Monday, p. 516 #3-9, and 12-14, to be turned in by end of class on Monday May 19th.
