Grade: 10, 11, 12 The accounting principles taught in this course are based on a double entry system (debits and credits). Activities include preparing worksheets, journalizing, posting, and preparing payroll records and financial statements. Computers are used on a regular basis for accounting data. Keeping records for businesses owned by single partners, proprietors, and corporations will be covered. This course will use the computer when appropriate. Leadership development will be provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Advanced Computer/ Technology ApplicationsGrade: 11, 12 This course is designed to provide students with tasks that replicate a real business office. Projects are used for solving problems, recognizing and establishing priorities, and preparing business documents using Microsoft Office Professional. This course refines and applies interpersonal and hu8man relation skills. In addition, a mentoring program with several local business and industries provides opportunities for field trips, shadowing experiences, and guest lecturers. Students use skills in language arts, spelling, banking, payroll, communications, and simple business math. Leadership development will be provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Business Communication:Grade: 10, 11, 12 This course is the study of written and oral communication in a business environment. Emphasis is on writing business letters, preparing and orally presenting business reports, using business information resources, listening and interpreting, electronic mail, and scheduling and organizing business information. In addition to writing, pupils will review the basic principles of spelling, grammar, punctuation, proofreading, vocabulary development and word and number usage. Business Law:Grade: 10, 11, 12 This course develops an understanding of legal rights and responsibilities in personal and business law. Typical units include courts/court procedures, oral/written contracts, consumer protection, and employee/employer relationships. This course will equip students to recognize legal problems, prevent problems when possible and utilize professional counsel. Leadership development will be provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Business Management:Grade: 10, 11, 12 This course emphasizes owner/manager skills. Areas of study will include types of ownership, community relationships, government regulations, organization structures, products, services, personnel, finances and informational processing. Management simulations will be utilized. This course will also focus on real life management issues, Internet projects, guest speakers, and possible field trips to local businesses. Business Marketing:Grade: 10, 11, 12 This course provides students with a basic foundation in marketing education. Major topics of study will include economics and free enterprise system, business organization and structure, distribution of goods and services, marketing and retailing occupations, and advertising/sales promotion activities. This course will also focus on sports marketing using the internet and other resources. Leadership development will be provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Business Principles and Applications:Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course will use the internet and computer software to learn the basic foundations for further study in business and marketing courses and provides essential information for making financial and economical decisions. Students learn about the fundamental of the American free enterprise system and world economics; applications of sound money management for personal and family finances; credit management; consumer rights and responsibilities; forms of business ownership; risk and insurance; and the importance of international trade. Computer/ Technology Applications: Data:Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course helps students develop and master skills associated with typing, computer applications, and business terms concepts. Individual activities, group projects, and multimedia presentations are all methods used to learn these skills: Microsoft Excel and Access will be used the majority of the time along with other Microsoft programs. The student will have “hands on” practice in all areas. Leadership development will be provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Computer/ Technology Applications: Word:Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course helps students develop and master skills associated with typing, computer applications, and business terms and concepts. Individual activities, group projects, and multimedia presentations are all methods used to learn these skills. Microsoft Word, and Power Point will be used the majority of the time along with the other Microsoft programs. The student will have “hands on” practice in all areas. Financial Accounting:Grade: 11, 12 This advanced course of accounting includes an in-depth study of accounting principles, procedures, and techniques used in keeping financial records for sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporate organizations. Skills are developed in supporting schedules, using vouchers and coding, using inventory control and managerial problem-solving situations. The data processed by a manual and automated system. Included will be a “hands on” approach to computerized accounting. With the help of automated accounting software, the student will be able to analyze transactions for computer entry and generate financial statements and other business reports, the knowledge gained in the class will enable the students to transfer his or her abilities to different types of automated accounting software used in the business field. Programming:Grade: 10, 11, 12 This course is intended to prepare students for additional academic or vocational training involving computers. The content will include the principles of structures programming and introductory systems analysis. The emphasis will be on learning to write structured, readable, well-documents programs in a popular computer language. Leadership development will be provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Programming II:Grade: 10, 11, 12 This full term course is intended to prepare students for additional academic or vocational training in computer technology. The course will use the JAVA language, which is considers a more current and higher level language. The content of the course will include structured programming, with an emphasis on the ability to write structured and workable programs. Leadership development will be provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). School Service:Grade: 12 Students in this course will be involved in learning through the school offices. The students will be providing a service to the school in terms of time and energy donated to the school environment. Students will be expected to learn the systems in which they are involved (Main Office, Guidance Office, Library, computer lab, etc.), learn the technological requirements of the system, learn the social skills requirements of the system and apply the learning in the service learning environment. Sports and Entertainment Marketing:Grade: 10, 11, 12 This course is designed to provide training of skills necessary for positions in the sports and entertainment field and to expose students to jobs at the mid-management or supervisory level. Instruction includes marketing skills, techniques or advertising and promotions, psychology of selling, and management associated with marketing of leisure time activities and events. Web Page Design:Grade: 10, 11, 12 In this class, students will analyze the structure of the World Wide Web, apply basic principles of web documents and HTML, and develop multi-media web pages. Course content will include the understanding of hypertext and web structures. Equipment such as scanners, digital and video cameras, and sound recording devices will be utilized through hands-on instruction. Leadership development will be provided through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Web Page Management:Grade: 10, 11, 12 In this class, students will apply advanced principles of documents and HTML, and develop multi-media web pages. Course content will include the understanding of ADOBE CS3/4 software and hypertext and web structures. Equipment such as scanners, cameras, sound recording devices, multi-media software will be utilized through hands-on instruction. |
