
Three terms of instrumental music will satisfy the Arts and Humanitites graduation requirement.
Choir:

This is the first level of choir at the high school. The purposes of this class are to provide students an opportunity to increase their knowledge and appreciation of music, to develop the voice and to develop the ability to perform in public with confidence. Emphasis will be placed on a wide variety of choral styles and music ranging from contemporary to fine choral literature. Students are encouraged to participate in solo competitions and are required to perform in concerts and choral competitions. Out-of-school dress rehearsals and performances are required, as well, out of pocket expenses for costumes.
Concert Choir:

In this course, students will explore the origins of the guitar, music history of the guitar, performance techniques, music analysis and song writing. Many exciting opportunities await the guitar student, such as trips to contests, festivals, clinics and state competitions. Guitar ownership is encouraged, but not required. Bass guitar players are welcome as well.

This choir will help you learn to read and play beautiful music without a prerequisite. Students are expected to enroll in three terms, which includes Marching Band in the fall, Symphonic Band in the winter and Wind Ensemble in the spring. However, alternate arrangements may be made for extenuating circumstances with the approval of the band director. All students participating in the WCHS band must take part in the summer band camp, all performances, festivals and concerts. A $250.00 fee will be assessed for band camp, uniform rental/cleaning, band shirt, bus travel and for additional instruction for both symphonic and marching band through out the school year.
The WCHS Band focuses on Percussion studies. This term will emphasize marching band techniques in the percussive arts. Specified areas of study will be snare drum orchestral and rudimental technique, keyboard percussion, marching percussion, drum set and world percussion.

Join us in the Music Appreciation class and let’s experience and explore music from the Renaissance through the jazz of the roaring 20’s all the way to the iPod in your backpack.

The Percussion Ensemble term focuses on KMEA Concert Band Festival Assessment at both the district and state levels, as well as, Solo and Ensemble Festival for individuals and small groups. In addition, the WCHS Concert Band performs at the annual year end Gala Concert.

Woodford Singers:

Membership in this highly select choir is made up of students with previous choral experience at the high school level. The scope of music involves all types of music including, but not limited to a cappella performances. This choral ensemble will perform in school concerts as well as in the community and in competition. Students selected for this group will be understood to place a high priority on musical excellence and have a firm dedication to the group. Many out of school performances are required as well as out of pocket expenses for costumes. |
