JOURNALISM I (Newspaper) Credit: 1

Course
Length: 1 or 2 Terms Prerequisite:
Completion of application; teacher approval. This course is an introduction to principles
and characteristics of journalistic expression.
Students are involved in each step of the process of producing a
newspaper including interviewing, writing, editing, typesetting, layout planning
and selling ads. Students will also
write news briefs for a weekly column in the community newspaper. JOURNALISM II (Yearbook) Credit: 1

Course
Length: 1 or 2 Terms Prerequisite: Completion
of application; teacher approval. This course is an introduction to journalism with
emphasis on yearbook production. It
involves the following procedures: planning
layout, interviewing, writing and editing copy, photography and picture
cropping, fitting copy using computer skills and developing merchandising
techniques including the sale of ads and yearbooks. MEDIA I Credit: l Grade: 11,

Completion of application and teacher approval. Students will participate in an intensive
program of video, television, audio and related productions as they produce the
school’s video yearbook, Channel Four presentations, a weekly radio show, and
other special programs. This course
will require after school work at school and elsewhere. The student in Media I will do the following: 1.
Learn production techniques and develop skills in visual and audio media
(radio, television, video, recorded audio and other media). 2.
Do major production such as a prerecorded weekly radio show about the
high school and our school system; special student and school productions; The
Video Yearbook; and other special projects. 3.
Evaluate career opportunities in media related areas (radio, television,
advertising, business, industry, etc.) 4.
Assist the school media specialists in running the school’s program. 5.
Develop and refine skills of written and oral communication. 6.
Have opportunities to apply their own creativity in designing and
planning their own productions. MEDIA II Credit: l Grade:

Course Length: Term Prerequisite: Completion
of application and teacher approval. The successful applicant will have attained 60 skills
levels; 100% project completion rating; a proficient rating in editing, video
mixing, special effects, camera knowledge, videography, production and other
related skills which are presented during Media I. MEDIA III Credit: l Grade: 12
Course Length: Term Prerequisite: Completion
of application and teacher approval. The successful applicant will have attained at least a level 3.0 producer rating, 70 skill levels and a 100% project completion and use of class time rating. A conference with instructor is recommended. This course is for the very serious media student. Emphasis will be on planning and production. Students will be responsible for all aspects of the media program. MEDICAL SCIENCE INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH SCIENCE Credit: l Grade: 9,

Course Length: Term Medical Science and Careers is a medical oriented
course for students seriously interested in pursuing a medical career.
The curriculum is designed to coincide with the Tech Prep prerequisites
mandated by several post secondary collegiate or Vo-Tech programs.
Anatomy and physiology are taught along with basic skills such as CPR and
first aid. Medical terminology
associated with each body system is taught in this course. MEDICAL SCIENCE Credit: 2 Grade: 10,

Term Prerequisite: Introduction to Health Science with a grade of ‘C’ or better. ADVANCED HEALTH SCIENCE/PRACTICUM Credit: 4 Grade: 11,

Course Length: Two Blocks Per Term Prerequisite: Medical Science with a grade of ‘C’ or above. This course is an expanded application of Medical
Science and Careers II. It includes
a concentrated study of anatomy and physiology along with the skills needed in
the medical area chosen by the student. Experience
in this chosen career is gained through actual participation as an assistant.
CPR and First Aid are recertified. Students
who complete three levels of Medical Science and Careers and other requirements
of the Tech Prep program may enroll in several post secondary educational
institutions that have articulation agreements with Woodford County High School.
Qualifying exams relating to subjects taught at the high school will be
given by these institutions. If a
satisfactory grade is achieved, the student may receive college credit.
Course requirements include uniform and shoes; CPR and First Aid
Recertification; TB Test; hospitalization and accident insurance; and
malpractice insurance for students. MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY Credit: l Grade: 10,
11, 12
Course Length: Term
Prerequisite: Medical
Science 1st term. This course will give the Medical Science students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of medical terminology. It will also add to their clinical experience by adding time to their rotation.
