Woodford
County High School Summer Reading Program for Advanced English Classes
Purpose
The
purpose of the Woodford County High School Summer Reading program is to help
prepare students who plan to take the senior Advanced Placement English exam. This nationally competitive examination recommends a
comprehensive list of titles each student should be familiar with in order to
write the exam successfully. Since
each book on this extensive list cannot be taught in the regular eight terms,
outside reading increases students’ chances to excel.
The
student who chooses to enroll in these rigorous advanced classes commits to a
willingness to work hard on focused, independent study. This commitment
indicates a personal and social responsibility to continue with the workload,
individually and as part of a group.
An
important component of the yearly curriculum, the Summer Reading program
provides students with an opportunity to read accurately, analytically, and
critically.
