Curriculum Committee Report

L. Caudill

Council reviewed packet of course proposals from the committee and listened to Mr. Caudill explain.  Courses were reviewed individually and council discussed recommendations on each course by committee. The courses discussed were: Freshman Math Peer Tutoring, Anatomy and Physiology, Algebra III, 4 Arts classes to gain Arts/Hum. Credit, Tech Design and Applications, Percussive Arts Studies, Forensic Science, Business Principle and Applications, and Computer Apps/Bus Prin./Apps Prin. Sue Jacobs asked about drivers education being removed from the course book due to WCHS not offering it anymore.  Council discussed that some of the course proposals would depend on schedule for next year. Council by consensus accepted recommendations of the curriculum committee while tabling Algebra III and Percussion until final schedule for 08-09 was determined.  All courses were approved except Math Peer Tutoring, Anatomy, and tabled items.

5.

Scheduling Committee

P. Thacker

Mrs. Thacker presented that the scheduling committee found no correlation between the top 20 and bottom 15 high schools when examining their daily schedules. Three site visits are scheduled on Dec. 4th, 5th, and 6th for Danville High, East Jessamine, and Anderson County . The committee examined how modifying our schedule would fit the needs of our students.  Mr. Akers discussed that a 5 block of modified 4 X 4 block are being examined.  Council then discussed math course progression.  Mr. Akers then explained the key is any change needs to be focused on positively effecting student achievement.

6.

Athletic Issues

R. Akers

B. Gibson

Mr. Akers presented information about compromising attempts that have been made over the past 5 years working through the KHSAA.  Bylaws over splitting the state tournament, creating a feeder pattern, players playing up, and players living in state have all failed for various reasons.  Private schools are held to a different set of standards than public schools.  WCHS has decided to join other schools in a schedule reduction of private schools starting in the 08-09 school year.  The hope is for private schools to be willing to attend the table of compromise in the future so all schedule reductions will end.
