ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING

 Prerequisite:  General Drafting. 

This course focuses on the development of a working knowledge of the practices involved in the designing and engineering of residential structures.  Also important to the instructional content is the future of construction design, an analysis of the impact construction planning has on the environment, and how a man-made environment began.  This course will cover information closely aligned with the technology program at Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University to better prepare students for these college courses.

 CARPENTRY I

 Prerequisite:  Must be 16 years old.

 Recommended:  Woodworking Technology and Survey of Engineering Fields.

 This course focuses on the development of a working knowledge of the practices involved initiating, designing, financing, and engineering commercial, institutional and residential structures.  This encompasses an analysis of the impact construction planning has on the environment and how a man-made environment began.

 CARPENTRY II

 Prerequisite:  Carpentry I; Student must take Carpentry I, Term l and Carpentry II, Term 2.

 This course includes the construction practices basic to the erection of commercial, institutional, and residential structures and the installation of mechanical and electrical systems within these structures.   Activities include:  site selection and preparation, laying the foundation, structural system erection, installation of mechanical and electrical systems, and enclosing and finishing the structure.   Students will learn to read drawings, interpret lists of materials required, schedule the construction sequence, and account for cost involved. 

CRAFTS

This course is designed to cover the study of a variety of materials such as ceramics and plastics, and how the materials are converted into different products.    The content includes activities and instruction in all of the following areas:  plastics, masonry, structural ceramics, woods, and metals.   The student will be responsible for the cost of projects.

GENERAL DRAFTING

 This course is intended to be an introduction to the broad field of technical drawing and related communications.  It is designed to provide learning experiences in three specialized areas; architectural, mechanical drafting, and technical illustration, in addition to the fundamentals of drafting and computer-aided drafting.  Each student who successfully completes this course will know about drafting—its tools, processes and opportunities—and will have gained a limited degree of skills in performing drafting activities.  This course will cover information closely aligned with the technology programs at Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University to better prepare students for these college courses.

 GRAPHICS ARTS

Grade:  10, 11, 12                                                                                     Course Length:  Term

 This course will cover the history and development of printing and photography.  Students will learn to use a 35mm SLR camera, how to develop film and print photographs in the dark room.  Students will also learn how to use video and digital camera equipment.  Printing process will also be covered, such as the printing press, silk screen and offset printing.  It is recommended, but not required, that students have a 35mm Single Lens Reflex camera. 

Since students will also be required to attend school functions such as ball games, band concerts, and other events after school to take pictures to be used by the yearbook staff, those students who request this course will be screened for trustworthiness, maturity and responsibility.

 METALWORKING TECHNOLOGY

 This course is a broad-based laboratory course providing a comprehensive introduction to the technology of different metals and metal working processes both in theory and practice.  The content includes activities and instruction in at least three of the following areas:  sheet metal, foundry, welding, and machine shop.  The student will be responsible for the cost of the projects.

 SPECIAL PROBLEMS:  DRAFTING

 This course is designed to allow the student to explore an in-depth recent technological advancement and how this advancement will, or could affect a specific industrial area.   Activities will be researching, analyzing, projecting, writing and presenting.  This course will cover information closely aligned with the technology programs at Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University to better prepare students for these college courses.

 SPECIAL PROBLEMS:  WOODS

Prerequisite:   Wood Working Technology.

 This course is designed to allow the student to explore an in-depth recent technological advancement and how this advancement will, or could affect a specific industrial area.  Activities will be researching, analyzing, projecting, writing and presenting.  This course will cover information closely aligned with the technology programs at Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University to better prepare students for these college courses.

 SURVEY OF ENGINEERING FIELDS

This course will cover three areas:

 Aerospace

 The past, present and future of air and space flight are introduced to the student through this module.  The student will use video tapes, books, computer programs and activities of building a plane or rocket.  The student will build a flying craft using basic materials.

 Electricity/Electronics

 The electricity/electronics module will allow the student to explore basic theories and applications of electronic circuits.  Electricity is the most versatile form of energy that is available to the technological world. This module directs the student in the construction, testing and analyzing of basic electronic circuits.

 Home Maintenance

 The need to understand and repair the personal home is becoming a necessity for many people.  In this module, the student will explore the technologies at work in the home.   The student will learn maintenance and repair methods that can save a homeowner many dollars.   The plumbing, electrical and structural systems in the home will be covered in this module.

 WOODWORKING TECHNOLOGY

This course focuses on researching, selecting and developing a product to be manufactured.  Emphasis is placed on an activity-centered study of the specific tasks associated with:  design problem identification and conceptualization, design, review, product design interpretation and specification, and product testing.  Development should include the process as well as product design.
